Mary Eileen McDonnell born 28 April 1952, is an American stage, film and television actress. McDonnell was awarded an Academy Award nomination for her role in Stands With A Fist in Dances with Wolves and she is also well-known for her portrayal of the President Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica and as President's wife in Independence Day and for her leading part in Donnie Darko as the titular protagonist's mother.
